Is Your Landing Page Leaking Money? A Conversion Rate Checklist

You've spent time and money driving traffic to your landing page, but are your visitors converting? A "leaky" landing page can silently drain your marketing budget. Use this checklist to identify and fix the most common conversion-killing issues.
1. Is Your Headline Crystal Clear?
Your headline is the first thing a visitor reads. It must answer "What is this?" and "What's in it for me?" within seconds. If it's vague, clever but confusing, or doesn't match the ad they clicked on, they'll leave.
2. Is Your Call-to-Action (CTA) Unmissable?
A weak CTA is a major leak. Your primary CTA button should be visually prominent (using a contrasting colour), use action-oriented text (e.g., "Get Your Free Plan" instead of "Submit"), and be placed above the fold and repeated further down the page.
3. Are You Lacking Social Proof?
People trust other people. Without testimonials, reviews, customer logos, or case studies, you're asking visitors to take a leap of faith. Sprinkle relevant social proof near your CTA to build trust and reduce friction.
4. Are There Too Many Escape Routes?
A landing page should have one goal. A full navigation menu, links to other parts of your site, or social media icons are all "leaks" that pull visitors away from the conversion action. Remove all unnecessary distractions.
5. Does It Load Like Molasses?
Every second counts. If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load, a significant portion of your visitors will bounce before they even see your offer. Compress your images, minify code, and use a fast hosting provider to speed things up.
6. Is It Broken on Mobile?
Over half of all web traffic is on mobile. If your landing page is difficult to read, navigate, or use on a smartphone, you're alienating a huge chunk of your audience. Test it on a real device—don't just rely on a desktop preview.
7. Is Your Offer Actually Compelling?
Sometimes, the leak isn't the page itself, but the offer. Is it truly valuable to your target audience? Does it solve a real problem for them? If your offer is weak, no amount of design tweaking will fix your conversion rate.
